Background:
When editing content in Genially, the Ctrl + Wheel shortcut (or Cmd + Wheel on Mac) triggers the browser's native zoom (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) instead of zooming in on the editing canvas.
Problem:
To zoom precisely on an area of the design, the user is forced to use the interface's zoom buttons or the CTRL +/CTRL - shortcuts, which is less fluid and less precise than a scroll wheel gesture.
Request:
When the cursor is on the canvas area (and not on the side panels or menus), intercept the combination Ctrl + Wheel (and Cmd + Wheel on macOS) to:
  • Zoom in/out the canvas.
  • Center the zoom on the position of the cursor (focused zoom), so that the point under the cursor remains stable while zooming.
  • Do not intercept the key combination when the cursor is not in the canvas area, in order to preserve the native behavior of the browser in these areas.
Expected benefits:
Ergonomics: natural and universal gesture in design tools (Figma, Canva, Google Maps, etc.).
Productivity: zoom accurately and quickly without leaving the canvas or using buttons.
Consistency: alignment with the conventions of other visual editing tools used by the same users.
